Product Description

Fowles is a motley crew of raconteurs and entrepreneurs, auctioneers, law men, farmers, hunters, and wine makers. From the frontier land, our forefathers (and mothers) founded what is now Bendigo Bank. Since then, Fowles has gone wild, settling into a life on the land. Vigneron, hunter and farmer, Matt Fowles raises the bar, swapping the vitriol of the courtroom for the vineyards of the Strathbogie Ranges. Matt leads a team of characters making wine with character.

When it comes to Shiraz Fowles Wine has two favorite blocks on Upton Run— Block 6 and Block 7— and they flip between each for the Upton Run Reserve Shiraz depending on vintage conditions. When making wine from an individual block in a single vineyard, the challenge is to make a complex and interesting wine. In 2008 they rose to this challenge through the sheer diversity of oak used to mature this wine. In fact, this wine is an assemblage of 13 barrels of varying size, place of origin and toasting level— all of which helps build layers of complexity in this wine.

This wine is deep purple in color. Intensely aromatic, the nose is full of violets, plums and pepper with notes of spicy oak. The palate is dense and rich with grainy tannins and great length of flavor.
