Wancha was born out of Ethiopian tradition in the heart of Sonoma Valley. Written in the Amharic language as ዋንጫ, Wancha means “horn cup” or “winner’s trophy”. Ethiopia has a rich artisanal grape wine tradition dating back centuries as a refreshment, and for use in Holy Communion. Winemaker Ayele Solomon brings his family's history and tradition to life in Wancha.
