With this pen Visconti pays tribute to Amerigo Vespucci, the first person to recognize that the New World was actually a fourth continent, which was subsequently named after him. Visconti engraved intricate scenes depicting Vespucci’s travels, all reproduced from ancient maps of Europe and the Americas. The engraving has been made into the ivory resin barrel of the pen, using Visconti’s incredible scrimshaw engraving technique. All metal parts of the pen, including the clip, are made from marine bronze. The spectacular presentation box includes a carved wood stand in the shape of an astrolabe.
