One of the most sought-after white wines in the world, only a few bottles of Venissa are produced from the tiny 3 acre “walled vineyard” on the Venetian island of Mazzorbo.

The wine pays homage to three Venetian traditions: wine, gold, and glass. Venissa’s story began in 1100, when vineyards could be found in Piazza San Marco, but whose ultimate destiny was to be cut down to make space for the great Venetian palazzos. Now, the Venissa vineyard is the only remaining vineyard of Venice.

The inspiration for the bottle came from a confluence of ideas, starting with the name of the variety: Dorona or “golden grape”. One of the greatest traditions of Venice’s artisanal past is, in fact, that of the families of gold hammerers, the “Battiloros” who hammer gold by hand, ultimately obtaining an impalpably fine gold leaf. Traditional Venetian gold leaf is applied by hand to each bottle of Venissa and baked onto the glass in one of the glassmaking ovens on the famous island of Murano, and each bottle is etched with its own serial number.

The wine is golden in color and instantly spicy on the nose with salty notes and nuances of fleshy yellow fruit. On the palate it is well-structured, full and velvety with quince notes and traces of licorice and honey. The finish is dry, savory, fully and persistent. Venissa is a great collector’s white wine with a long life expectancy.

The wine is bottled in Murano glass created by celebrated artist Carlo Moretti. The gold leaf label is produced by the Battiloro family, who have worked as goldsmiths in Venice for over 1,000 years. The gold label is fused directly onto the bottle and then numbered.
