The Night Cafe, c.1888
Product Description
This print of an oil painting original is a depiction of the Café de la Gare in which van Gogh spent much of his time. The cast of this painting includes drunks, prostitutes, and proprietor Jospeh Ginoux. The colors and light, in addition to the positions of the patrons, indicate that this is set some time in the middle of the night, and indeed van Gogh stayed up for three nights straight to complete it.

About the Designer
Vincent van Gogh (1853—1890) went from relative obscurity during his lifetime to becoming one of the most recognized names in 19th century art. The Dutch post-Impressionist painter's work is characterized by rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. Unfortunately, he did not start painting until his 20's and died at the young age of 37.
