Self Portrait
Product Description
In his lifetime can Gogh painted dozens of self-portraits, which were an important part of his progression as an artist. It is assumed that he painted from a mirror, meaning each image of him appears flipped from reality. This self-portrait, painted in September of 1889, is the second-to-last one he did, and only one of three that depict him post-ear mutilation. In these paintings, van Gogh chose to portray himself from the side of his still-intact ear.

About the Designer
Vincent van Gogh (1853—1890) went from relative obscurity during his lifetime to becoming one of the most recognized names in 19th century art. The Dutch post-Impressionist painter's work is characterized by rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. Unfortunately, he did not start painting until his 20's and died at the young age of 37.
