Country Road in Provence by Night, c. 1890
Product Description
Also known as Road with Cypress and Star, this painting celebrates van Gogh's obsession with cypresses, which he found "beautiful of line" and even more moving as a symbol of death. Art analyst Naomi Maurer wrote that this painting depicted human life "in the context of infinity and eternity," with human figures walking underneath a mystical and overwhelming sky.

About the Designer
Vincent van Gogh (1853—1890) went from relative obscurity during his lifetime to becoming one of the most recognized names in 19th century art. The Dutch post-Impressionist painter's work is characterized by rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. Unfortunately, he did not start painting until his 20's and died at the young age of 37.
