A Pair of Boots, c.1887
Product Description
This still life has been said to symbolize van Gogh's life, as the shoes depict a worn down, battered existence. The legend goes that he had purchased this pair of shoes to paint, and decided he didn't want to work with them once bringing them home. It was only once he had worn them in the rainy streets of Paris that they were fit to be captured in the way that he wanted to capture them.

About the Designer
Vincent van Gogh (1853—1890) went from relative obscurity during his lifetime to becoming one of the most recognized names in 19th century art. The Dutch post-Impressionist painter's work is characterized by rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. Unfortunately, he did not start painting until his 20's and died at the young age of 37.
