Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle hadn't always planned to enter the bourbon business, but his impact on the industry continues to be felt generations later. Pappy went into the endeavor with the philosophy of product over profit. As he put it, he “simply tried to be honest and make a good product.” It was that simple to him, and it has stayed that simple for more than 100 years.
Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Kentucky Bourbon is bottled as close to barrel proof as possible. They add just a splash of Kentucky limestone well-water when they empty the barrels for bottling. Rich, yet smooth, this bourbon takes a back seat to none.
Tasting Notes
A sweet vanilla nose with caramel, pecan and oak wood is followed by a smooth, mellow flavor consisting of robust wheat, cherries, and oak. It features a long, smoky wheat finish with hints of fruit, spice and oak tannins.
