Ukiyo-e Heroes
The Serpent Strikes
Product Description
In the Ukiyo-e Heroes project, illustrator Jed Henry and traditional woodblock printmaker Dave Bull have combined their talents to create Japanese woodblock style prints that bring a surprising twist to iconic heroes, villains, and monsters across almost every genre. Modern costuming has been traded for the medieval, but the essence of each character remains.
This piece was inspired heavily from Meiji Era artists like Ogata Gekko and Mizuno Toshikata. It depicts the tension before a fight, rather than the fight itself. The larger cartouche can be translated to "Metal Machine Solid." The smaller cartouche translates to "The snake burrows deep, then strikes."
