Ukiyo-e Heroes
More Beast than Man
Product Description
In the Ukiyo-e Heroes project, illustrator Jed Henry and traditional woodblock printmaker Dave Bull have combined their talents to create Japanese woodblock-inspired prints. Machine printed on handmade Japanese paper, each piece brings a surprising twist to iconic heroes, villains, and monsters spanning almost every genre. Modern costuming has been traded for the medieval, but the essence of each character remains.
The wider cartouche reads 貂熊 - the literal symbols for 'weasel bear,' which means 'wolverine' in Japanese. The narrow cartouche reads: 夢歟現歟 唯覚者憤, which in classical Chinese could be loosely translated as, "What is real? What is a dream? All I know is anger."
