Ukiyo-e Heroes
Flight of Fantasy
Product Description
In the Ukiyo-e Heroes project, illustrator Jed Henry and traditional woodblock printmaker Dave Bull have combined their talents to create Japanese woodblock-inspired prints. Machine printed on handmade Japanese paper, each piece brings a surprising twist to iconic heroes, villains, and monsters spanning almost every genre. Modern costuming has been traded for the medieval, but the essence of each character remains.
'Flight of Fantasy' is our most ambitious wood print yet. Artist Jed Henry is astounded by the intricate details, along with the many gradient atmospheric effects. The kanji in the top cartouche reads: むげんの果 which translates as "Unceasing Fruition" or "Unending Ending." The bottom cartouche contains: 呵責乃闘志, meaning "Fighting spirit borne of a tortured conscience."
