Ukiyo-e Heroes
Descent into Madness
Product Description
In the Ukiyo-e Heroes project, illustrator Jed Henry and traditional woodblock printmaker Dave Bull have combined their talents to create Japanese woodblock style prints that bring a surprising twist to iconic heroes, villains, and monsters across almost every genre. Modern costuming has been traded for the medieval, but the essence of each character remains.
Back in the Edo Period, most houses were built from wood, and so fire was always a concern. There are several prints from the 1800s depicting firemen in action, and I referenced these heavily for this composition. The left cartouche says "Dark Knight" and the right one loosely translates as "Become a monster to fight monsters."
