Ukiyo-e Heroes
Blue Storm
Product Description
In the Ukiyo-e Heroes project, illustrator Jed Henry and traditional woodblock printmaker Dave Bull have combined their talents to create Japanese woodblock-inspired prints. Machine printed on handmade Japanese paper, each piece brings a surprising twist to iconic heroes, villains, and monsters spanning almost every genre. Modern costuming has been traded for the medieval, but the essence of each character remains.
This particular design requires over 15 individual impressions to achieve a full range of color. The left caption says 末子一世頼 meaning: "The Last Born, the greatest hope of our age." The right caption reads 岩乗九番 which means: "Strong Number 9." The kanji 岩 means "boulder," which hearkens back to this hero's "rocky" origins.
