Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, is a lovely mid-sized deciduous conifer. Very unique and prehistoric. Foliage resembles that of a Coast Redwood, but it is softer and somewhat more feathery also the tree is deciduous, not an evergreen, so it presents fall colors and loses its needles each winter. Dawn Redwoods are very amenable to pruning and shaping, so the ultimate form and how it looks is pretty much up to the grower.
