Product Description

Reaching heights greater than 365 feet, the magnificent Coast Redwood or California Redwood is not only the planet's tallest tree, but also one of the world's most long-lived, with life-spans of more than 2,000 years. Fossil records also indicate that the species is among the most ancient of trees; its lineage dating back 160 million years.

At maturity, typical Coast Redwoods tower 175 to 300 feet, and have massive trunks 8 to 20 feet in diameter with deeply furrowed, reddish-brown bark. Only 5% of America's ancient Redwoods remain, most under State and National protection. Now is a great time to plant a Coast Redwood!

This 100% guaranteed grow kit provides everything you need to germinate some of the world's largest and most interesting tree species from a seed. Complete with the growing medium, a mini-greenhouse, and detailed instructions, this kit will lead you through the whole process from cold-stratifying your seeds to germination and transplanting. If your seed fails to germinate or your seedling perishes, The Jonsteen Company is happy to provide free replacement seed. You can also contact them through their toll-free "Tree Help Line" (1-888-387-3379) for assistance.

FAQ
What climate do redwoods grow best?

Coast Redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens, are native to a small strip of coastal territory, mainly in far Northern California. The climate is fairly mild where the big primeval forests exist, with temps remaining between about 25F to around 100F at the hottest. However, Coast Redwoods, have proven to be remarkably adaptive and have succeeded in places well outside their native climes, such as Cape Cod, Maryland, and throughout the Southern States. With proper misting and irrigation, this species can live in warmer locations, and with some care in placement and perhaps some early-in-life protections, they can also adapt to some colder environments. As a general rule of thumb for Coast Redwoods, mild climates are usually the best.
