The Future Mapping Company
Olympic World Map
Product Description
Celebrating the Olympic journey from the first modern games in Athens in 1896, all the way up to Brazil in 2016, this Olympic World Map uses the popular Robinson projection to show a classic view of the shape of countries and continents, while providing an accurate reference point for looking up the more far-flung competing nations. Along the map’s border are delightful graphic illustrations of the 36 sports that were contested during the 2012 Olympic games, and the colors of the Olympic rings have been graded through countries and continents to represent the sense of unity which arises from global participation in this event.
Featuring metallic seas and gloss-varnished landmasses in sublime shades, the paper version of this map is printed on the highest-quality, FSC-approved silk-coated paper, but it is also available in a plastic gloss finish that can be written on and wiped off like a whiteboard, and a magnetic metal version that can hold notes or photos, like a refrigerator door.
Each print is made using a lithographic printing process that works like a mechanized version of traditional screen printing. A plate is made for each color and then laid down individually, creating a stunning effect with maximum definition and impact. A sealer is applied to protect the inks and gloss UV varnish is used to add contrast and highlight boundaries.
