Otodus Tooth in Matrix
Product Description
Remains of the giant prehistoric sand shark Otodus obliquus have been excavated in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. The species is believed to have been widespread and highly successful. Indeed, at up to 30ft long, this shark was considered the king of the Eocene seas. Considered a possible ancestor to Megalodon, the teeth of this shark have smooth cutting edges, but related species evolved serrations.
Dug out of phosphate pits in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, these teeth have glossy yellow-tan to brown enamel and chalky roots. After more than fifty million years, many are still sharp enough to cut paper!
