Cubist Head // Alexander Bogomazov // 1914
Product Description
A radical departure from the 19th century Romantic and Realist styles that predated it, Cubism is regarded by historians and artists alike as one of the most influential movements in the contemporary art world, leaving its mark on a slew of art styles ranging from turn-of-the-century Art Deco and architecture, to modern Dada and Pop art styles. In Cubist artwork, objects are analyzed, broken up, and reassembled in an abstracted, 2-dimensional form. Instead of depicting objects from a single viewpoint, the artist renders the subject from a multitude of contrasting viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Angular, geometric, and enrapturing, give your art collection an avant garde twist with this remarkable reproduction of an iconic Cubist artwork.
This particular canvas print is of a piece by Ukrainian painter, known artist and modern art theoretician of the Russian Avant-garde Alexander Bogomazov (1880-1930). In 1914, Alexander wrote his treatise The Art of Painting and the Elements. In it, he analyzed the interaction between Object, Artist, Picture, and Spectator and sets the theoretical foundation of modern art. During his artistic life Alexander Bogomazov mastered several art styles. The most known are Cubo-Futurism (1913–1917) and Spectralism (1920–1930).
