2014 Pierre Matrot Auxey-Duresses // Pack of 2
Product Description
2014 Pierre Matrot Auxey-Duresses 95 Points
Winemaker Pierre Matrot was a Burgundian through to his very bones. And he came it honestly, too, inheriting the vineyards of his father Joseph Matrot in the mid 20th century. The lineage goes back much further than Pierre’s dad, however, as Joseph was the grandson of domaine owners, as was Joseph’s wife, Marguerite. What all that family lore means today and for this recently produced Beaune Rouge is that the Matrot family (now led by Pierre’s son, Thierry) command one of the greatest assortment of prime vineyard plots across the Côte de Beaune. In the 95-point vintage of 2014 the Matrots created a Pinot Noir of unparalleled charm and grace from one of Burgundy’s most unfairly unsung AOCs. This Auxey-Duresses shows bright red stone fruit and a long, ethereal finish. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in neutral oak for close to one year, this is lovely to sip now and will go on to improve for five years to come.
