2013 Pierre Matrot Meursault 94 Points

Among white Burgundies, Meursault has a reputation for richness and weight. Meursaults tend to exhibit a characteristic creaminess--and while always vinified dry--Chardonnays from this Beaune AOC are so buttery they appear to mimic a dessert-style wine, but one balanced of course by layers of tingling acidity.

Matrot’s Meursault is a textbook example, offering aromatics of wildflower honey and honeysuckle blossoms. On the palate, this white Burgundy coats the tongue with fresh-churned cream and butter, lifted in the end by racy apple/pear notes. Drink this Meursault with cheeses, fish in a cream sauce or alone. A 94-points Wine Enthusiast vintage for Beaune whites produced dangerously low yields, but fabulously high quality. The well-established, family-owned domaine of Pierre Matrot knew just what to do with the small amount of perfect Chardonnay fruit from their holdings in Meursault, producing a white of real balance and class.
