2011 Aurelién Verdet Nuits St Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots" 93 Points

93-points winner from the Wine Spectator, which writes: “this red is dense, with black cherry, black currant, iron and underbrush flavors. Stays sweet and lone, with ample fruit coating the dusty tannins. Shows excellent length and energy. Best from 2017 through 2030.”

True, at six years post harvest, this wine is still a baby. It comes from a miniscule (0.3 hectare) plot planted by Aurelién’s father in the 1960s just below 1er Cru Damodes and just above the exalted Grand Cru Vosnee-Romanée. Grapes are tended to organically, as is the case with all of Verdet’s releases, and the wine is clearly built for the cellar. The 2011 vintage was rated 91 points by the Wine Advocate and the Wine Enthusiast alike. 2011s from the Côte de Nuits show “elegant, perfumed wines, with vibrant acidity, pure fruit and juicy textures for near- to medium-term enjoyment,” according to the Wine Spectator.
