Product Description
VIRIDIS is one of the first sculptures T Barny attempted to carve in Argentine Onyx— a banded variety of the oxide mineral chalcedony, which is mostly silica with trigonal crystals. The grain of the material is chaotic, as opposed to the uniform parallel bedding plane of metamorphic marble. It has a Mohs hardness of 6.5, and features a mesmerizing glass like finish.
T Barny's works are produced through a method of direct carving, which entails no preconceived notions or models from which to derive the final shape of his pieces. Instead, he allows the natural rhythms of the materials he uses to guide him to a final product. Abstraction is his fascination, and power tools are his forte. He makes use of negative space as much as positive body, establishing an affinity with each piece he carves and evoking a feeling as sublime as the pieces themselves.
