Product Description
The Argentine Onyx from which SYLPH was carved came to T Barny by way of Lawrence, Kansas, where one of his largest suppliers of raw blocks is based. This sculpture is from a cut-off of a larger block which called out to him to be transformed into something special.
T Barny's works are produced through a method of direct carving, which entails no preconceived notions or models from which to derive the final shape of his pieces. Instead, he allows the natural rhythms of the materials he uses to guide him to a final product. Abstraction is his fascination, and power tools are his forte. He makes use of negative space as much as positive body, establishing an affinity with each piece he carves and evoking a feeling as sublime as the pieces themselves.
