This kit is definitely levels above the flimsy kits you can find elsewhere. On our beginner set, we have chosen carbon steel picks with stainless steel handles. This is because the rigidity of the steel does much better to communicate the feedback from the lock into your hand. Because it's stronger overall, it also can put up with more abuse and will last a long time after you have discovered the techniques needed and can help with those locks that rely on subtle feedback to open. Although, it is likely to snap when it breaks unlike the softer, more stress-resistant, spring steel we use on our Travel Lock Pick Set.
Is it legal to have lock picking sets or so you need some kind of license?They are legal to own in most states but in a few states they are "prima Facie evidence" and you might have to prove that you were not planning to use them in a crime.
