The Laphroaig distillery was founded on the south coast of Islay by Alexander Johnston in 1815. Named after its location, ‘broad hollow by the bay,’ this family-owned and operated distillery benefited from a surplus of barley and a water source that was particularly soft and peaty. The resulting whisky was one of exceptional character and highly appreciated by whisky blenders like Lagavulin. Its reputation spread around the globe, eventually becoming the first whisky to be given the International Spirit Challenge Trophy in 1999.

Laphroaig 25 Year Old Single Malt Scotch is lovingly created by marrying Laphroaig that has been matured in Oloroso sherry casks with Laphroaig that has been matured in ex-American bourbon barrels; both filled with newly distilled Laphroaig spirit from day one. When you join the sherried, oaky flavors from the second fill sherry casks with the creamy, smooth, sweet flavors from the bourbon barrels, you create the magic that is Laphroaig 25 Year Old. Bottled at cask strength, it is a perfect fusion of two different styles of maturation flavors, made even smoother by the quarter century it has been gently maturing.

Delicious nuttiness mixed with stone fruit nectar and a very pretty floral character all mingle in the nose. Both soft and strong in the mouth, flavors span a wide range of flowers, nutty caramel and toasted grain. — 95 points, Ultimate Beverage Challenge
