An Egyptian Faience Frog Amulet, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, Ca. 1539 - 1292 BC
Product Description
A green glazed faience on an integral base. The frog, with its prolific breeding habits, symbolized fecundity for the living, particularly for women. During the New Kingdom, a frog was sometimes used to write 'repeating life,' a term used after the name of the deceased that symbolized the promise of rebirth.
Condition: Intact and in very good condition overall. Pierced for attachment.
Provenance: Acquired in 1998 from the London trade, thereafter private NY collection.
