An Egyptian Blue Faience Djed Pillar Amulet, Late Period, Ca. 6634 - 332 BCE
Product Description
The slender tapering form featuring a tall broad shaft with a ribbed capital surmounted by four short horizontal bars, pierced at the back for attachment.
The djed-pillar was closely linked with Osiris, and its shape was interpreted as a representation of his backbone. suggesting stability and endurance. Conferring these qualities on the deceased, they were placed within the mummy wrappings.
Condition: Repaired, intact and in overall good condition.
Provenance: RDA private collection, acquired from the NY trade as part of a collection assembled in the 1970s and 1980s.
