Product Description

This utterly haunting painting depicts the powerlessness of dreams. Dali would force himself to have strange waking dreams, which is symbolized here with a statue whose eyes are sculpted closed and mouth is sealed with insects. It's a dreamscape which is more of a nightmare, with additional figures in the back who represent Oedipus and other nightmarish figures.

Salvador Dalí

Spanish artist Salvador Dalí (1904 – 1989) was a groundbreaking icon of the Surrealist movement and one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Extraordinarily imaginative, he also sculpted, and contributed to fashion, photography and theater. His surreal paintings are characterized by a refined sense of light and space often attributed to his study of Renaissance master works. In contemporary art, Dalí is now a master of his own movement.
