The Damascus Grain resembles the steel forging process for which it is named, a practice whereby an intricate pattern emerges from continuous folding of the medium. While the Damascus is the most elaborate grain offered by Refractory, its design remains simple and true to the organic aesthetic for which they are known.

About the Designer
Married since 2004, the husband-and-wife team that is Refractory Studio works from a shop located in Tucson, Arizona. They handcraft their products using proprietary methodology and unique materials, grounding their aesthetic in an appreciation of architecture, engineering and the honor of materials in their purest form.
Emily has a BA in 2-Dimensional Studio Arts, and Kent has a background in ceramics, metallurgy, and machining. Since founding their studio in 2009, their products have been featured in DWELL Magazine and various lifestyle blogs.
