The Seagull Light, an LED lighting fixture, takes the form of a flying seagull and functions similar to the bird. In response to consumer’s demands for eco-friendly products, the lamp adopts LEDs as the primary lighting source. LEDs consumes much less energy than traditional lighting fixtures, yet provides the same brightness for both ambient light and reading functions. The Seagull Lamp has two knobs on the main body, the front one for adjusting brightness and the back for adjusting lighting angles. The “wings” can change positions according to the light adjustment, imitating a seagull flapping its wings to soar into the sky. The design delivers not only light but also interactive fun for users.

Manfred Wang

Manfred Wang is a professor of design at National Taiwan Normal University and Principal Creative Advisor for Qisda Corporation. Prior to 2013, Wang was the Vice President & Chief Design Officer of BenQ & Qisda Group and the General Manager of QisDESIGN Lifestyle Products Business Unit. Under his guidance, BenQ and Qisda have won more than 375 international design awards. Manfred Wang graduated with a Master of Industrial Design from Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design in 1994.
Wang reckons mainland Chinese design capabilities are increasing, following the pace of the country’s rampant industrial development, meaning Taiwanese design needs to develop unique prerogatives to persist in the international market. QisDesign’s 60 designers have obtained 101 international design awards that since the brand’s creation in 2009, showing locally developed technology can provide innovative edges to Taiwanese product design.
