Coral Light, an LED lighting fixture, is inspired by the exquisite corals in the ocean. Imitating how natural coral reflects rays of light through the living sea, the Coral Light creates a visually mesmerizing effect as it graces a table. Thanks to a special light diffusion technique, the light emitted by the LED bulbs is evenly distributed on the edge of each diffuser.

To carry out this project, the Qis Design team collaborated with Taiwan’s National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, an internationally renowned aquarium with expertise in coral preservation. Based on the museum’s marine knowledge, the design successfully delivers the sparkling light effect that can usually be seen in the underwater world.

Manfred Wang

Manfred Wang is a professor of design at National Taiwan Normal University and Principal Creative Advisor for Qisda Corporation. Prior to 2013, Wang was the Vice President & Chief Design Officer of BenQ & Qisda Group and the General Manager of QisDESIGN Lifestyle Products Business Unit. Under his guidance, BenQ and Qisda have won more than 375 international design awards. Manfred Wang graduated with a Master of Industrial Design from Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design in 1994.
Wang reckons mainland Chinese design capabilities are increasing, following the pace of the country’s rampant industrial development, meaning Taiwanese design needs to develop unique prerogatives to persist in the international market. QisDesign’s 60 designers have obtained 101 international design awards that since the brand’s creation in 2009, showing locally developed technology can provide innovative edges to Taiwanese product design.
