The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is an interactive night light, air purifier, objet d'art, conversation starter, and science lesson all in one incredible glass sphere. This 4" glass micro-aquarium is filled with bioluminescent plankton (algae) that produce mesmerizing blue light at night when gently swirled. Set atop a metal cephalopod-inspired OctoStand, it's a truly remarkable accent piece that captures the beauty and mystery of the ocean.
The Bio-Orb will light up naturally, night after night, with minimal care. The living PyroDino marine plankton responsible for this glow are classified as Pyrocystis fusiformis (aka Dinoflagellates) and can be found in oceans all over the world. Much like a houseplant, they require light to grow, and work to refresh your space by pulling CO2 and other pollutants out of the air and replacing it with fresh oxygen.
To get started, simply pour the contents of the included PyroDino pouches into the Bio-Orb, then place it in a moderately well lit area out of direct sunlight. Wait five to seven days before feeding with DinoNutrients, and watch as your unique miniature aquarium comes to life in spectacular fashion.

How long does this algae or plankton live?The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is similar to a houseplant in care and longevity. Bio-Orbs contain plant-like algae (PyroDinos) which require daily light and the occasional addition of DinoNutrients (bi-monthly). With proper care, a Bioluminescent Bio-Orb will last for over a year or more.
What happens once the food runs out?Not much. They mainly subsist on daily light. Although their long term survival may be lessened.
Are there temperature restraints?Moderate temperatures are recommended - 9C to 31C (48F to 88F). The ideal temperature is 20C (68F).
Could the octostand be used to hold the larger orb instead?The OctoStand can hold any sphere from 3" to 5" in diameter. Any larger would be somewhat unstable.
Can it be used with other fish?You may add PyroDinos to a saltwater aquarium. Do not add to a freshwater aquarium. PyroDinos are phytoplankton and will be consumed by filtration and predation.
