Candy Chan is an architect and graphic designer based in New York City. With a keen interest in the world underground, Candy launched Project Subway NYC in the summer of 2015.
Born out a love-hate relationship with New York City's public transit system, her collection of sketches, photographs, and architectural drawings explores the intricacies of the stations themselves— the signs, stairs, turnstiles, tunnels, platforms, escalators, and more. In other words, anything between the streets and the trains.
As the project developed, what was originally intended to be a straightforward, mechanical exercise of surveying and drawing has gradually turned into a journey of observation, discovery, and amusement.
