Steele Wines' winemaking philosophy is all about minimalism. They use standard, non-GMO yeasts, natural fermentations, and no extra additives or enzymes. During fermentation they gently pump over, use inert gas to move the finished wines, and use gravity flow as much as possible. All of this ensures that they don’t bruise the wine during its time in the cellar, which helps retain fresh aromas and flavors in the finished wines. From handpicking grapes to gentle processing and bottling in their own facility, they make sure our grapes are cared for from vineyard to bottle. It’s all about a light hand in the winemaking to better highlight the aromas and flavors of the quality fruit we crush.

The wines from Bien Nacido are deeper, richer and with more color and body than from other vineyards. Steele's aging program is always in French oak barrels which are heavily toasted during the bending of the staves. This vineyard, given its coastal influence, produces a wine with aromas and flavors of freshly picked strawberry, Bing cherry, cloves, and spice. It maintains a balance of acidity and a finish that lingers of sweet tobacco and spices. This Pinot Noir is always elegant, perfumed, and alluring. The rich fruit of this wine will compliment grilled filet steaks or a seared Ahi tuna.

Bien Nacido is a well-known vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. On a bench that overlooks the Sisquoc River, this highly-esteemed vineyard is quite large and has numerous slopes and aspects. Bien Nacido, literally Spanish for “Born Well”, is one of the vineyards in Santa Barbara where Steele Wines purchases Pinot Noir grapes. Many of the most prestigious wineries in California purchase grapes from this vineyard. Steele's favorite block for the single vineyard wines is “N-Block” which gives the most intense fruit.
