The odic words of A Midsummer Night’s Dream are used here to design an image of imaginative scope and breath. Deep within the forest, a comical Shakespearean ballet is underway. The nonsensical yet overly-confident Bottom is shown here after his head has been turned into that of a donkey by Puck, a spunky and mischievous faery. Unaware of his foolish appearance, Bottom takes a graceful leap – self-assured in the love of the beautiful Tatiana and ignorant of the fact that she loves him only because of an inflicted spell. In this illustration, two of Tatiana’s fairy attendants brace themselves to catch the ridiculous Bottom whose silhouette is enchantingly captured by the milky, full moon.
