About the Designer
Ben and Patrick met while working together at Penguin, where Ben was a designer and Patrick was an editor. One afternoon while working to put together a chart for a book, they began to wonder why no one was charting anything fun. Moreover, while both of them had collaborated with authors to bring ideas to the printed page, they hadnāt yet worked on anything that was fully theirs. So, using his editorial background, Patrick began to research, and Ben, using his design expertise, began laying out the charts. Within two weeks, when they found themselves rolling prints and putting them in mailing tubes at two oāclock in the morning out of a cubicle in a co-working space, they realized they were onto something. Two months later, when their beer print was featured on āThe Today Show,ā they knew they'd someday be able to leave their day jobs and build a company dedicated to combining data with design.
