Jean-Michel Basquiat // Helmets // 2002 Offset Lithograph
Product Description
"Helmets" by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Open edition by Jean-Michel Basquiat published for a retrospective of his work at a museum in Italy in 2002.
One of the first African American artists to reach international stature in the fine arts, Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988), had a short but prolific career. Basquiat started his career in the arts at age 17, delving into the urban 1980s avant-garde culture of New York City, and rose to fame early for his fusion of multicultural symbols, biting social commentary, distinctive graphic style, and often temperamental personality. Basquiat created wildly expressive paintings using iconography from African, Aztec, Hispanic, and ancient Roman and Greek imagery with his own invented iconography and graphic mark.
