Pietra Gallery
Granayd // Brazilian Quartz and Watermelon Tourmaline + Boiled Glass Fusion Sculpture
Product Description
The name tourmaline comes from the Sinhala word “touramalli,” which means “mixed colored stones”. Granayd presents tourmaline in intense pink shades on quartz placed on a contrasting piece of glass in wide transparencies and intense red and orange. It is mounted on a custom-made acrylic base.
Glass artists Orfeo Quagliata and Ernesto Duran created the TYME collection with the shared idea to create visual compositions full of color and texture. Born in San Francisco in 1972, Quagliata was attracted to glass from an early age. He began apprenticing for his father, Narcissus Quagliata, at age 12. Duran, on the other hand, didn't discover his passion for glass art until he was 24 when he founded Pietra Gallery. He grew up with a love for nature and a passion for collecting minerals, which is translated in his work today.
