Toyota 2000GT
Product Description
Although some may consider it just a shrunk, Japanese E-Type, the 2000GT stood for a lot more. Back in the 60s, the sports car market was mostly occupied by western manufacturers and Toyota’s introduction was a huge step forward for Japan. When introduced at the 1965 Tokyo Motor Show, the 2000GT looked like out of this world. On the stand was a car with not only great performance but also good design to match it. All from a brand not widely remarked for making desirable sports cars.
It wasn’t however, in this project alone. It was Yamaha who helped with production of the 2000GT and who was responsible for most of the underpinnings. The engine, although sourced from Crown sedan, was reworked by Yamaha to produce 150 horses and with a set of Webbers, could easily be boosted to over 200. The interior was also partly Yamaha’s own work, with the wood sourced from its very own piano factory.
