Product Description

Giori Test notes are now considered an essential part of paper money collecting and were initially produced in the 1970s to test the Giori Press.

Named after the famed Italian security printer and inventor Gualtiero Giori, the “Giori Test Notes” were an experiment on the part of American Can Company engineer Edgar L. Pigman to produce two and three colored print engravings on a single plate in one pass. These plates originally displayed 32 different vignettes identical to obverses of the $1, $5, and $50 at that time. Subcontracted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing via the American Bank Note Company in the 1970s, these groundbreaking presses delivered sample notes from the manufacturing site in Geneva, NY to Washington, D.C. only to eventually be rejected by the BEP for regular circulation. For a time they were considered illegal to own given their resemblance to notes of the time, and today are sought after by paper money collectors for their unique role in the history and development of U.S. paper money.

You will receive the unique item in the photo accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
