All notes are actual authentic currency from the respective countries that either are, or were, legal tender in that country. Some countries may have discontinued certain banknotes, in which case some are no longer redeemable. In any event, the current face value in U.S. dollars is less than the list price for this item. Although real, these notes are best purchased for collecting purposes.

Is this a good kit to start collecting with?

Collecting is a personal endeavor, but this set certainly provides an interesting start. It contains banknotes from many countries and it would be somewhat challenging to seek out and acquire each of them individually. This should get you started nicely.
