The TWA terminal at JFK International (originally Idlewild) Airport is probably the best known aviation building in the world and one of the defining icons of 20th-century architecture. Commissioned in 1956 to “express the spirit of flight,” architect Eero Saarinen designed a swooping bird-like structure with two “wings” for check-in and baggage claim.

About the Designer
Eero Saarinen was a Finnish-American architect and industrial designer famous for designing the Dulles International Airport, The Gateway Arch and the TWA Terminal at Kennedy International Airport. He grew up studying art and architecture at Cranbrook Academy of Art with famous designers, Charles and Ray Eames.
