Royal Opera House Plans
Product Description
In 1889 Stockholm’s century-old royal opera house was demolished and replaced on the same site by a new royal opera house designed to better complement the nearby royal palace. The new building, or Operan, was the first, and by far the grandest, of five city theaters executed by Swedish architect Axel Johan Anderberg. It is one of Sweden’s proudest neo-classical buildings, with a wealth of classical detail imaginatively applied to the exterior. Organized along a strong axial spine, the Operan appears almost cathedral-like from the side as it builds from the entrance to the great central tower, in this case the vast stage house and fly tower.
