Copper Sesterce of Gordian III (Latin: Marcus Antonius Gordianus Pius Augustus) with Laureated Right Facing Head and Standing Providentia Figure holding a Globe with his right Hand and Diagonal Spear with Left.
Roman Emperor from 238 CE – 244 CE – because of his age (thirteen years old) he was given little if any real authority and most of the power remained in the hands of the Roman Senate. His reign was very short and full of unrest, when he tried to take over Persia, Emperor Phillip refused to follow his orders. He made his troops choose between him and the Persian king, his men chose the latter.
