Chinese Pedestal Bowl with Bagua // Qing Dynasty, China Ca. '1850-1910' CE
Product Description
This is an extraordinary pedestal bowl in an octagonal shape, depicting the Bagua in the form of fish. It has gold tones on the rim and trigrams, and an elaborate interlaced design as a border in colors of red.
The Bagua or Pa Kua, are eight trigrams used in Taoist cosmology to represent the fundamental principles of reality, seen as a range of eight interrelated concepts. Each consists of three lines, each line either "broken" or "unbroken," respectively representing yin or yang. Due to their tripartite structure, they are often referred to as "trigrams" in English.
