Product Description

This Qing Dynasty dish is hand-painted in inky-washes of vivid cobalt-blue and white porcelain, decorated under the glaze. This dish has a nice center bloom medallion encircled by symbols that are a repeated scroll pattern, and surrounded by 4 flowers.

Blue and white decoration first became widely used in Chinese porcelain in the 14th century, after the cobalt pigment for the blue began to be imported from Persia. A style of decoration based on sinuous plant forms spreading across the object was perfected, and most commonly used. No chips, cracks, crazing, loss of color or paint.
