Chinese Blue + White Dish 24 // Qing Dynasty, China Ca. '1850-1910' CE
Product Description
A hand-painted blue and white porcelain dish, it is decorated under the glaze with a blue pigment, generally cobalt oxide. This dish has a floral design in the center and the outer rim is visibly faded. It has the number 24 engraved into the porcelain from a previous owner.
Blue and white decoration first became widely used in Chinese porcelain in the 14th century, after the cobalt pigment for the blue began to be imported from Persia. A style of decoration based on sinuous plant forms spreading across the object was perfected, and most commonly used. No chips, cracks, crazing, loss of color or paint.
