Very fine original Imperial Rome Antoninianus of Emperor Gordian III, coined in Rome between 238-239 A.D.
Obverse: IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right.
Reverse: FIDES MILITVM. Fides standing left, holding standard and scepter.
Imperator Caesar Marcus Antonius Gordianus Augustus (known as ”Gordian III”) reigned 29 July 238 A.D. – 11 February 244 A.D. Born: 20 January 225 A.D. —Died: 11 February 244 A.D. (aged 19) at Zaitha. Member of the Gordian dynasty. At the age of 13 years and 190 days, he became the youngest sole Roman emperor. Due to Gordian’s age, the imperial government was surrendered to the aristocratic families, who controlled the affairs of Rome through the Senate.
