Luristan Spearhead // Early Iron Age Weapon
Product Description
Impressive extra large bronze Luristan Spearhead with a beautiful green patina— a sign of its age. Minor chips at the edge of the blade commensurate with age, otherwise intact.
Luristan (or Lorestan) is a province of western Iran in the Zagros Mountains. This area was populated by migrant tribes in the 3rd and 4th millennium BCE. The Cassites have left a rich legacy of metallurgical craftsmanship spanning the third and second millennia BCE. Their artifacts include numerous objects made of gold, silver, and even iron, but their metal of preference was bronze— making the “Bronzes of Luristan” a renowned term among art historians and archaeologists.
The rich history and culture of this region has resulted in fascinating artifacts, especially known for their high quality bronze, that would make a fine addition to any collection of ancient art, weapons, and general items.
